Getting found in AI search

More of your customers now start by asking an assistant instead of scrolling results. When they ask for a business like yours, something decides which names come back. Here is what, and how we build for it.

Answer engines read structure, not vibes

ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Mode do not admire your design. They read what your pages say and how legibly they say it: schema markup that states what you are, where you serve and what you charge; headings that match the questions people actually ask; and a site fast enough to be worth quoting. A beautiful site with none of that is invisible to them.

Your pages have to answer questions

An assistant answering 'who does wedding florals in Kelowna' looks for a page that answers it directly. Pages built as question-led answers, with the service, the area and a real price range on them, give an assistant something it can quote. A homepage that says 'Welcome to our website' gives it nothing.

There is a file for the machines

An llms.txt file describes your business to AI crawlers in plain text, the way robots.txt talks to search crawlers. It is a small thing, and with structured data it is part of making the site legible to the machines that are increasingly the first place your customers ask.

Google still matters, twice

AI answers lean heavily on the same signals classic search uses: your Google Business Profile, its categories and hours, and your reviews. A profile that is complete, posted to, and reviewed recently feeds both the map pack and the AI answer. This is the least glamorous work on this list and it moves the most.

What this looks like when it works

We built okanaganwed.com for a customer with all of the above wired in. Asked in July 2026 where to rent wedding décor in the Fraser Valley or Kelowna, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Mode all named Okanagan Wedding Co. and linked to the site. Those answers regenerate on every query and can change, which is why we date the claim instead of framing it as a permanent ranking. The full test, including the prompts that did not name her, is written up with its sources on the case study.

Included in the website, not sold beside it

Agencies sell this work as a separate retainer with an acronym on the invoice, AEO or GEO. We do not. Every AI Website ships with the schema, the question-led pages, the llms.txt file and the Google Business Profile setup as part of the build, and your monthly report card re-grades the site so you can see whether it is working. If somebody quotes you a monthly fee for "AI search optimization" on top of a website, ask what exactly the website was doing without it.
